Service 02
Google Business Profile & Listings
For most local businesses, the map pack produces more phone calls than the website does. We manage it like the revenue channel it is — plus every directory that tells Google you’re real.
We claim, verify, optimize and actively manage your Google Business Profile — categories, services, description, photos, weekly posts, Q&A and messaging — and we build and maintain your listings across local, service and legal directories with consistent name, address and phone data. The goal is simple: appear in the Google map pack for the searches that produce paying customers in New Jersey and New York City, and stay there.
Why this first
The highest-return asset most owners have never optimized.
When somebody searches “dentist near me” or “electrician in Jersey City,” Google shows three businesses on a map above everything else. Those three get the overwhelming majority of the clicks and calls. Everyone else is competing for the leftovers.
The profile that wins those slots is almost never the biggest company. It’s the one with the right primary category, complete service list, recent photos, steady review flow, answered questions and weekly activity. All of that is work, and almost nobody does it consistently.
That’s the opening. It is also the fastest-moving lever we have — profile work often shows measurable change in two to six weeks, while SEO takes months.
Local ranking factors, in order of impact
- Proximity to the searcher — can’t be changed, but can be worked around with service-area strategy
- Primary category — the single biggest thing you control
- Review quantity, velocity and keywords in the review text
- On-page location signals on your website
- Citation consistency across directories
- Local backlinks from real organizations nearby
- Profile engagement — posts, photos, Q&A, messages
What’s included
Setup, then real ongoing management.
Most “GBP services” are a one-time optimization and an invoice. The value is in the weekly work after that.
Phase 01
Claim, verify & optimize
- Claim or recover the profile, including suspension appeals
- Verification handled end to end (video, postcard or phone)
- Duplicate listing identification and removal
- Primary category research — tested against who currently ranks
- Secondary categories, only ones you legitimately perform
- All services added with individual descriptions and page links
- 750-character business description, written for humans and machines
- Service area defined by county and borough
- Hours, holiday hours, attributes and booking links
- 20+ launch photos, properly sized and named
- 8–10 real Q&A entries seeded and answered
- UTM tracking on the website link so you can see profile traffic
Phase 02
Ongoing management
- Weekly Google post — offer, update or event
- 3–5 fresh photos every month
- New questions answered within 24 hours
- Messaging monitored and responded to (if enabled)
- Monthly category and competitor audit
- Edit monitoring — we catch and revert malicious or wrong changes
- Suspension monitoring and rapid response
- Monthly insights report: searches, calls, direction requests, website clicks
- Local rank grid tracking around your service area
- Coordination with review generation (see Reviews & Booking)
Phase 03
Directory & citation management
Google cross-references what other sites say about you. Inconsistent name, address or phone data across directories is one of the most common causes of a profile that simply won’t move.
- Full citation audit — every existing mention found and logged
- Corrections submitted for wrong or outdated data
- Core listings: Bing Places, Apple Business Connect, Yelp, Facebook, Foursquare, Nextdoor
- General directories: BBB, Yellow Pages, Manta, Chamber of Commerce
- Service directories relevant to your trade
- A living tracker of every listing, login and last verification date
- Quarterly re-verification of the whole set
Phase 04
Legal directory management
Law firms have their own citation ecosystem, and it behaves differently from general local search. If you’re a firm, this is included rather than upsold.
- Avvo profile claim, completion and rating management
- Justia, FindLaw, Lawyers.com, Martindale-Hubbell
- Super Lawyers and state bar directory listings
- Practice-area taxonomy mapped to how clients actually search
- Attorney bio consistency across every platform
- Review and endorsement strategy within each platform’s rules
- Compliance with New Jersey and New York attorney advertising rules
How it works
The first 90 days.
Days 1–3 — Audit & access
We audit the current profile against the businesses ranking above you, document every citation that exists, and get manager access to your profile. You stay the owner throughout.
Days 4–14 — Full optimization
Categories, services, description, attributes, service areas, hours, photos and Q&A all rebuilt. Duplicates removed. Website link tagged. Baseline rank grid recorded so we can prove movement later.
Days 15–45 — Citation build
Core aggregators and directories claimed or corrected with identical NAP data. Review generation switched on in parallel, because reviews and citations compound together.
Days 46–90 — Activity & measurement
Weekly posts, monthly photos, questions answered, competitors watched. First full report at day 30, comparison report at day 90 showing rank grid movement, calls, direction requests and profile-sourced website traffic.
What you receive
Deliverables and reporting.
| Deliverable | Frequency | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Google post | Weekly | Freshness signal and a second surface in search results |
| Photos uploaded | 3–5 monthly | Profiles with recent photos see materially higher engagement |
| Q&A responses | Within 24 hours | Unanswered questions get answered by strangers — sometimes wrongly |
| Category & competitor audit | Monthly | Categories change; competitors reposition |
| Local rank grid | Monthly | Shows where you rank across your actual service area, not just at your address |
| Citation verification | Quarterly | Directories decay and get edited without warning |
| Insights report | Monthly | Calls, messages, direction requests, website clicks, search terms |
| Suspension monitoring | Continuous | A suspended profile can vanish overnight; response speed decides recovery |
A good fit if
- You serve customers at their location or yours in NJ or NYC
- You show up below competitors on Google Maps
- Your profile hasn’t been touched in months
- You’re a law firm needing legal directories handled properly
- You’ve been suspended and need it recovered
Not a good fit if
- You’re fully online with no local customer base
- You want fake reviews or fake locations — we don’t do it, and it gets profiles removed
- You want listings in cities where you have no legitimate presence
- You expect map-pack results without any review activity
Questions
Google Business Profile, answered.
How long does it take to rank in the Google map pack?
Profile optimization alone often produces visible movement in 2–6 weeks. Competitive categories in dense areas — personal injury in Manhattan, HVAC in Bergen County — take 3–6 months and depend heavily on review volume and velocity. Proximity also sets a ceiling: you will not rank first for a search taken twenty miles from your location, and no agency can change that.
Can you fix a suspended Google Business Profile?
Usually. Suspensions are typically caused by keyword-stuffed business names, a virtual office or unstaffed address, category mismatches, or too many rapid edits. We diagnose the cause, correct the underlying violation, gather the documentation Google asks for, and file the reinstatement appeal. Most resolve in one to three weeks. Profiles suspended for genuine policy violations that can’t be corrected are the exception, and we’ll tell you if yours looks like one.
Do I need a physical address to rank locally?
No. Service-area businesses can hide the address and define a service area instead — that’s the correct configuration for contractors, mobile services and consultants. What you cannot do is use a P.O. box, a virtual office, or a co-working address you don’t staff. Google actively removes those, and it triggers suspensions.
How many directory listings do I actually need?
Roughly 20–40 high-quality, relevant listings matters far more than 500 automated ones. We prioritize the data aggregators Google trusts, the platforms your customers genuinely use, and the industry directories specific to your trade. Consistency across a focused set beats volume across a scattered one every time.
Do you manage legal directories for law firms?
Yes — Avvo, Justia, FindLaw, Martindale-Hubbell, Lawyers.com, Super Lawyers and state bar directories, plus practice-area taxonomy and attorney bio consistency across all of them. We work within New Jersey and New York attorney advertising rules; where a claim would need substantiation or a disclaimer, we flag it rather than publish it.
What happens to my profile if I stop working with you?
Nothing bad. You are the profile owner the entire time — we operate as a manager. You remove our access and everything we built stays exactly where it is: categories, services, description, photos, posts, Q&A, and the citation tracker, which we hand over as a spreadsheet.
Can competitors edit or sabotage my listing?
Anyone can suggest an edit to a Google Business Profile, and competitors sometimes do — marking a business as permanently closed is the classic one. We monitor for unauthorized edits and revert them, which is one of the quieter but more valuable parts of ongoing management.
